Kender Exposes Mage Plot

Palanthas – On Bracha last a kender exposed a plot by white-robed mages to invade the Emperor's Palace.

The kender, Shayna Memorymapper of Hylo reported the group when she discovered them plotting in an alley as she was walking along Globe Street.

"I was on my way to the Cartographer's Guild to get some supplies for a journey I intend to take next week. I'm going to map Winston's Tower on Karthay. I've heard such wonderful things about the place..., oh that's right I was talking about the white-robes. Anywhoo I passed by this dark alley way and heard voices so I investigated thinking that perhaps they were talking about me."

"The voices stopped when I got closer. There were three men all of them in white-robes. I think they must have been wizards," said Memorymapper. "One of them said, "Don't worry it's just a kender." "Just a kender! I'll have you know I'm more than a kender; I'm a world renowned cartographer. Anywhoo Mr. Just-a-kender's buddy didn't say anything; just glared at him. One of them must have cast a spell on me because even though I didn't see his lips move I distinctly heard Lord Steely-eyes say, "Silent you fool! If the kender hears our plans to breach the wards on the Palace we're sunk." "I don't know if his words made my neck itch or the spell they cast on me; maybe I'm allergic to magic, but it didn't sound like good news for Emperor Markham so I mumbled something about being on the wrong street and high-tailed it out of there."

Memorymapper relayed her findings to a nearby Blue Partisan who commandeered a squad of City Guardsmen to apprehend the mages.

"The kender did us a big favor today," said Monitor 26 of the Blue Partisans, 'She handed us a big lead in our search for the White Witch. We've been trying to find her for a few weeks now. We managed to capture two of the mages, but the third escaped via magic. I have no doubt that the Monitor Prime and his Adjutants will be able to persuade these mages to lead us to the fugitive White Witch."

"I thought those guys were planning to rob the Palace," said Memorymapper. "Uncle Tasslehoff always told me stealing is wrong. I only sought to help. How was I to know they were friends of Lady Coryn attempting to help her visit an old friend? I guess I blew it again."

"I hated helping the Partisans arrest the mages," said City Guardsmen David Matthal. I was ordered to assist and that is what I did. I don't have to like it or even understand the reasons. I 'm a soldier and my job is to follow orders."

The mages were taken into custody by the Blue Partisans and are being held at an undisclosed location.

This marks the second time in as many weeks that a kender has informed on the good guys. Most times kender would be dismissed as harmless, but now word is getting around that they cannot be trusted to keep their mouths shut. Groups all over Palanthas are becoming more tight-lipped around kender creating a wall of silence whenever speaking about sensitive information. The kender are beginning to notice the silence and it is making them uncomfortable. The heroes must find a way to distract the kender before the plans to storm the Palace are mistakenly relayed to the wrong ears.
