Naval Taskforce Ambushes the Ashaynnth

New Sea - A Taskforce of ships from the Imperial Solamnic navy have ambushed the elven pirate ship the Ashaynnth.

This past week a small fleet of Solamnic ships ambushed and attempted to capture elven pirate ship the Ashaynnth. The Ashaynnth which has been seen several times recently in the New Sea, has been working with Sanction forces on curbing the growing influence of the monsters from Sable's swamp. Sources within the Solamnic Navy say that they had received word that the Ashaynnth would be passing through Solamnic waters on the way to the Isle of Sancrist and that the Emperor wanted the Elven vessel apprehended.

"Each of the ships in the fleet had been assigned a handful of Kingfishers," Lieutenant Thomas of the Sea Falcon told the Herald. "The white robes were there to provide magical cover to enable us to get close enough to elven vessel; its renowned speed is known to all who sail the seas. It worked, unfortunately for us. "

The Ashaynnth not expecting an attack in "friendly" waters fell into the fleet's trap, the six ships managing to surround and close in on the Ashaynnth in an attempt board and capture the vessel.

"We outnumbered them five to one, but we didn't stand a chance," continued Lieutenant Thomas. "Captain Bruce uth Winston was the Taskforce Commander and ordered the elves to surrender. When the only response he got was an obscene gesture from one of the sailors, he ordered us to board them. Many of the ordinary men in the navy feel a kinship to Ashaynnth and her crew; we still remember what is like to be under someone else's rule. Captain Winston knew that and hand picked the crews, so when it came the attack was fast and fervent, except for a few like me."

"That enthusiasm did not last long though, their ram virtually sliced one ship in two, while a series of lightning bolts scuttled two more in short order. That minotaur champion Elygar, then boarded our ship, where Captain Winston confronted him. They dueled each other for quite while. It was as if the Captain was able to predict what the minotaur would do before he did it. Eventually Elygar landed a telling blow and split Captain Winston completely in twain with his huge silver axe. The Captain's body underwent a startling change before our eyes. The two halves rippled and warped and soon the Captain's body was gone and in its place was the remains of a doppleganger."

The death of Captain Winston and the stunning revelation brought about by his death resulted in a truce between the crew of the Ashaynnth and the surviving members of the taskforce.

According to Lieutenant Thomas, Four warships were sunk in the ill-fated attempt, but the Ashaynnth did not escape unscathed and was listing heavily to the starboard as she sailed away.

The only reason for the attack the Herald could get from official sources was from the mysterious Monitor Prime of the new Blue Partisans. "The Ashaynnth is a known pirate ship; it routinely attacks and destroys ships that are legal representatives of sovereign countries and their colonies. Emperor Markham has decreed that such lawlessness will not be tolerated in Solamnic waters."
