Lyceum Damaged in Experiment; Mystic Flees

Citadel of Light - The Channeling Lyceum of the Citadel of Light was damaged early this week when a mystic attempted an experiment which went horribly wrong.

Roberta uth Bancroft, an apprentice Mystic of Channeling had conceived of an experiment in which she would use the very earth as a source of mystic spell energy. She intended to channel the energy into her own body to increase her physical abilities.

"Roberta was attempting to draw strength directly from the earth," said Percival Haberdasher. "Everything was going smoothly. She appeared to have succeeded in drawing the energy from the living planet. I watched as her muscles filled out; then something went horribly wrong."

According to Haberdasher, Bancroft's form swelled with power she had drawn from the earth. Her skin took on a rocky texture and she grew to nearly 8 ft tall.

"All that power proved to be too much for Roberta," said Haberdasher. "It was as if she had become some sort of elemental or something. Whatever it was, it triggered something primal in her and she lashed out; knocking a big hole in the southern wall of the Lyceum, through which she fled. We're just lucky she didn't hurt anyone or seriously damage the Citadel."

According to records obtained from the Citadel of Light, Bancroft was born and raised in Palanthas to a minor noblewoman named Enid uth Bancroft. Her father, an Abanasinan Plainsman named Stormrider, was killed when she was a young girl.

"Something in Roberta's barbarian blood reacted badly to the earth energy," said Haberdasher. "Wherever she is I hope she has recovered from the effects of the experiment."

Bancroft has not been seen at the Citadel of Light since the accident. There are rumors among the Que-Nal of a rock creature roaming the Barren Hills. The Citadel has dispatched agents to verify the rumors and if possible to capture Bancroft.

Lady Cassandra Renay is heard to have said, "We only want to help her."
