Magical Golem Rampages
by Darcwulf, Staff Writer
Palanthas - A magical golem used to repair the Palanthas docks, broke free and went on a destructive rampage through dockside.
This past week a twelve foot tall stone golem, a statue animated by magic, went berserk dockside destroying Inns taverns and warehouses before the combined power of three kingfishers brought it to a halt. The stone golem one of three maintained by the city is used for carrying out duties that an ordinary person would have trouble with, in this instance the golem was being used to carry out repairs on several sections of the docks that are beneath the water.
"I ne'er seen 'em stonies actin' like 'at in all me life," said Aegir Kegstand, a dockside worker. "And I've worked 'ese 'ere docks over thirty years, seen 'em replace those pylons many times before. Not once did 'ey go bonkers and try to tear down the town. Until now 'at is."
"According to reports the golem had barely even been under the water three minutes when it emerged arms flailing wildly," said Morris Sheppard of the Palanthas Guard. "It's erratic movements destroyed or disabled a large length of the dock it had been repairing and knocked the red robe hired to oversee it's use unconscious. It then proceeded to walk into, or rather, through three dock warehouses practically demolishing them. It then headed through some of the inns and taverns that line the docks. Thankfully three kingfishers responded to the emergency bells and were able to use their powers to halt the golem. Although there were many injuries, several of which were severe, there were thankfully no fatalities. We have as yet no idea what caused the incident and have launched an investigation."
Unconfirmed rumors through the city have suggested several possibilities, but the one most often repeated is that when the dark knights held the city, the thorn knights altered the enchantment within the golem. Another rumor almost as popular says that there are places within the city where magic goes awry or even completely fails. The Herald tried to contact Coryn the head of the white robes for a comment, but she was unavailable. One her apprentices did say that there had been an incident or two and the conclaves representatives were investigating the matter.
