Seventh Watch falling 30 ![]() Clash of the Champions Held in Nethosakby Kendermage, Staff Writer Nethosak – The annual Clash of the Champions was held this week in Nethosak. A flame draconian, Autuus of Khur, a reputed Firebrand of Sirrion, was declared the winner. Autuus took an early lead in the competition when he outlasted all his competitors in the Endurance Run. The Endurance Run was the opening event this year and featured all the delegates on the field running around a track until they dropped from exhaustion. The event lasted for well over twenty hours and came down to just two contestants Carcenos de Zhakan of Nethosak, and the flame draconian. De Zhakan stumbled and fell several minutes shy of the twenty-one hour mark. "I am tired beyond belief," said Autuus after the Endurance Run, "But I am pleased with my performance. My nearest competition was a testament to his people." After a short rest, Autuus and the other delegates went on to participate in the traditional Battle Royal. Due to his fatigue from the Endurance Run, Autuus did not fare as well in this event and neither he nor de Zhakan lasted very long. A minotaurtle, Seahunter of Lattakay was declared the winner after he had tossed the members of every other delegation including his own out of the ring. Seahunter told the Herald, "None can hold against the might of one of Zeboim's Chosen." However, Seahunter's boasting proved hollow as he failed to win any of the other events. De Zhakan and Autuus split two other events. De Zhakan won the Sea Battle in which he slayed a shark singled handed. Both competitors tied for first in the Stone Hammer Toss with distances of 125.24 feet. The effects of these two events meant that De Zhakan and Autuus would meet in the final event, to determine the winner. "I am pleased to be meeting the best Ansalon has to offer in the final event," said de Zhakan. "That is what this competition is all about. I wish my competitor best of luck, because he'll need it to defeat me again." The final event this year was a maze. The maze was constructed by the Priests of Sargonnas and the Champion's belt hung in the center of it. The first to reach the belt would be declared Champion. However, to reach it the competitors would have to fight their way through the maze to the center. Both competitors were bruised and bloody by the time they reached the center of the maze. Guarding the belt was a hydra. The hydra, a favorite of many patrons of the Grand Arena, proved difficult for either de Zhakan or Autuus to defeat on their own necessitating them to join forces. Once the hydra was defeated it came down to a duel between the two competitors, which the flame draconian won after knocking the minotaur unconscious. "This is a great victory," said Autuus. "I intend to use the power of the belt to aid me in bringing reform to corrupt governments everywhere. Rumor has it the words of the flame draconian did not set well with the Emperor. Still he had no choice but to name Autuus the champion. |
