Morning Watch falling 27 ![]() Church Grants Draconian Sanctuaryby Tauren Kai-Jere, Staff Writer PALANTHAS - The Church of Paladine has granted sanctuary to an alleged draconian spy. The church claims that not only is the creature innocent of the charges against it, but is in fact, not evil. Last Bracha the City Guard responded to reports of an altercation in the New City between two armed mercenaries and an unknown dark-robed figure. When the guard arrived they found that the sellswords were in fact fighting a blue draconian in tattered robes in the middle of the street. Before the watch could intervene a passing priest of Paladine diffused the combat with a powerful calming prayer and asked the guardsmen to help protect the draconian. "Are swords were already pointed at the draco, but this priest said that Paladine had shown him that the dragon-man was not evil," said city guardsmen Bartholomew Arikkson. "Before we could say a word this crazy priest blessed the monster and says he's taking it under the church's protection!" Unwilling to openly challenge the authority of the newly reformed church the guardsmen agreed to let the priest, David Argent, take the monster into custody as long as Argent promised to bring the creature before the Council of Lords at a later date to address the spying charges being pressed by the two Lemish mercenaries. "I can't believe a so-called priest of a god of good would protect a damn Dragonarmy spy," said Rannik of Elmwood, one of the mercenaries. "Why else would a draconian go sneaking around a city all covered up like that?" Revered Father Elistan, head of the Church of Paladine in Palanthas, said that Father Argent acted rightly in intervening on the draconian's behalf. "Father David received a vision from the Platinum Dragon there in the street and with Paladin's aid was able to avoid unnecessary bloodshed," Elistan said. "How a draconian was able to throw off the shackles of Takhisis' evil will and follow a more noble path is still unclear to us, but having spoken briefly with the creature I believe that he is no more dangerous to the citizens of Palanthas then you or I." Karn uth Eppig, a spokesman for Speaker of the Senate Imogena Fale, said that the Senate was willing to defer to the church's judgment until the draconian's case is heard officially. Elistan plans to speak on behalf of the blue dragon-man in front of the City Senate within the week. The exact date and time of the hearing has not been set as of press time. |
