Second Watch falling 13 ![]() Eye in the Crowd – The Hole and the Carpenterby JOSHUASIGEP44, Staff Writer Palanthas - Every now and again the Halls of Healing stomp about the city crusading on their latest public health concern. These crusades are largely tolerated for the overall greater good of the city. Indeed most have come to expect this as common practice, and no complaints are raised unless a new directive comes down from the City Senate in light of those health crusades that affects someone's pocket book. Enter Gorman Ereath, owner and operator of Ereath's Carpentry, a family run carpentry business that has operated in Palanthas for many a year. After receiving a report from the Halls of Healing, via the City Senate, that his building was infested with a type of fungus that has been classified by the Halls of Healing as dangerous to humans, Ereath started about the work of demolishing his place of business. Upon completion of the demolition Ereath unearthed a large and deep hole under what had formerly been his basement. Not knowing much of the history of the building himself Ereath alerted his finding to a few local historians. Those historians have admitted to knowing little about the hole's origins, but suspect it's magical due to the lights that can be seen at the bottom. So the herald wants to know... What do you think the hole is? Fien Ereath, Gorman Ereath's son, shared the following. "Honestly I don't give a damn what it is, but apparently everyone else does. My father and I tore down our shop, a shop that has been in my family for a hundred years, because the healers told us it would have to be condemned. So instead of letting 'em condemn the building we do it ourselves, but now that they discovered this hole they told us we cannot build over it until it is properly identified. Meanwhile me and mine are losing business cause we have nowhere to work. All over a blasted hole in the ground." Ty Gradock, Palanthas University History professor, stated these remarks: "In the very beginning days of Palanthas that area of the city was covered by a wizards tower I believe. I will have to confer with my notes, but I'm sure that is correct. Not much was known about those wizards other than they were reclusive. Whatever the hole is it is certainly very interesting." Joseph Kowlue, silversmith, boldly shared his feelings: "I don't give two coopers what it is! Well, that is to say we already know what it is. It is a stinking hole in the ground. Honestly if it is magical then I'm sure it was covered for a reason. Cover it back up, or fill it in and be done." |
