First Watch falling 12 ![]() Eye in the Crowd – Sympathy or Blatant Attempt to Make a Profit?by JOSHUASIGEP44, Staff Writer Palanthas - Of late Palanthas's own Merchants Guild has not had much to smile about. Between rising taxes, recent smithies fires, and the internal legal issues the guild has been somewhat distracted. Citizens at large seemed to have forgotten that the Palanthas Merchants Guild is perhaps one of, if not the, oldest Merchants Guild in all of Krynn. So in spite of their recent trouble, and somewhat tarnished image the merchants announced this past Misham that they would be holding an event called the Challenge of Champions. The Challenge of Champions will allow all the different adventuring groups in the Cityhome and the surrounding areas to compete against one another in a controlled environment. Four member groups can be pulled from any adventuring field. The group then will compete through a challenging gauntlet of 15 taxing events. The Senate has adopted a blind eye to the event, and its official opinion is that no action will be taken to impede the event's progress. To the winners of this prestigious event a 1000 steel purse will be awarded so the field itself is accepted to be a large one. What the Herald wants know is.... Why has the Merchants Guild chosen to host the Challenge of Champions now? Michael Adams, a local fisherman had this to say: "Steel, plain and simple! They're trying to help those smithies who lost their shops in the fires last week. That's going to take more steel than there are fish in the sea. I'm sure they will make a boat load off of folk who are paying to see the events. Not to mention all the concessions and souvenir sales. I think this is a step in the right direction, and I applaud their efforts." Wayland Windmoore, a self described local authority on the Palanthas night life shared the following: "I'm really looking forward to all the events. I've spoken to several barmaids and apparently the entire city is going to turn out. It's going to be a record setting smash for sure. I've spoken to a few guild representatives and they are expecting the challenge to sale out early. As a matter of fact I have to be brief because I'm on my way to get tickets now. See ya!" Jakob Turndown, dock worker reluctantly shared his feelings "This is a shameless abuse of their power. The guild is trying to turn a profit off of the smiths' bad fortune. As a matter of fact I would not doubt it if the guild staged the fires so hey could make a fortune off this Challenge. I do not plan to attend the events. It's all blood money." |
