Morning Watch falling 14 ![]() Eye in the Crowd - Smithy Fires Make the City's Blood Burnby JOSHUASIGEP44, Staff Writer Palanthas - According to the City Guard's incident report 20 smithies caught fire and burned to the ground last Misham. Given the high volume of smithies that caught fire and the fact that no surrounding buildings suffered damage, authorities suspect arson. The Weaponsmiths guild is in an uproar over the matter, and is demanding the culprit's head. Meanwhile the City Guard has said that taking the law into one's own hands is not an option and that the City Guard is well equipped to handle the matter. The loss of shop and home to many of the smiths has, naturally, been devastating. However in an act of complete benevolence the City Senate has offered to cover the cost of rebuilding the smithies. With that in mind, many of the smiths that have been displaced by the recent fires have begun their own investigations into the fires all the while turning over any significant findings to the Guard. Operatives from the Silver Hand are working on the case in conjuncture with the City Guard. The very involvement of the Silver Hand in this investigation is a clear indicator that the authorities believe that the fire were magical in nature. So the Herald wants to know... "Tell us what you think about the recent Smithy fires" Marsha Tompliatt, displaced female smithy had this to say: "It's no secret that the City Guard think the fires were magical. That Brent Grawfellow even said so. What I don't understand is why on Krynn a wizard would target me. I have done nothing that would've warranted such an attack. One question I would like to ask the good captain is why it took so long for his lot to respond after the fire bells went off." Reevas diGordan, another displaced blacksmith was quoted early saying this: "I'm tellin' ya, this was no ordinary fire! I was workin' on an order I needed to finish that same evening when all of a sudden the fire jumped at me. And I mean that literally! These small fiery things jumped from the furnace and spread all over the place, settin' everythin' on fire. By the Firemaster, they looked like mini dragons, 'cept they were made of fire." Daygrimm Stonejaw, red robed wizard, shared the following: "diGordan was it? If what Master diGordan said is indeed the truth than the fires were magical in nature, and the City Guard is right to enlist the aid of the Silver Hand. Although I can't for the life on me guess why the Guard would let that information slip. Surely they now suspect a magic user, and by letting that little tidbit of the investigation slip all they have done is paint a red bull's eye on the back of every magic user in Palanthas." |
