Second Watch falling 29 ![]() Eye in the Crowd - Dragon Turtles and Fickle Godsby JOSHUASIGEP44, Staff Writer Palanthas - Five sailors were killed last week when their vessel was accosted by what sailors claim was a creature known as a dragon turtle. Just as quickly as the attack began it was over. The onset of a brief, but violent squall in the bay apparently drove the dragon turtle away. Once the dragon turtle vacated the premises, the squall mysteriously broke up. Sea monster attacks have been the stuff of rumors and legend ever since the dawn of time. It used to be old wives' tales but now that an attack has been reported in the bay, opinions have begun to change. Gone are the scores of recreational boaters in the bay." People are ripe with speculations as to why the monster attacked out of the blue, literally. Most fingers are pointing in the general direction of a recent policy change by all local shipping operations. Clerics of Habbakuk are now required to be on board all ships under their control, the reasoning being that the clerics will shield the ships from the wrath of Zeboim. So the Herald wants to know... How has the dragon turtle attack affected you? Dominick Woodbine, elven archer, had this to say: "Well, it is harder to get fresh fish, and rightly so. The fishermen want to go out as few times as they can. So by cutting down on their trips, it means they have less to sale. The fish markets have not grinded to a halt or anything, but the lack of traffic is noticeable. Honestly, I can't say I blame them. I would not want to go fishing either if I thought I might catch a dragon turtle in my net. Come on, have you seen the size f that thing?" Ferial Goldstone, miner, was reluctant to share the following "Zeboim is a goddess of vengeance. I do not wish to speak ill of her or her choices. Mind yourself and those that question her motives. The dragon turtle is her minion and does her bidding. The local fishermen have offended her, by seeking protection the King Fisher's protection. I have no doubt we will see more attacks until Habbakuk's clerics withdraw from her territory." Weston Kelpar, merchant fishing boat captain, let lose these gems "Aye, she is my mistress, but that does not make her any less fickle. She will bless you with fair skies, stiff winds, and smooth sailing in the morning. That same afternoon she will sink your ship for not thanking her every time you take a step. All the captains I know faithfully tithe most of their wages to her in spite of this. These clerics are merely along to offer up a bit of protection from her when she is feeling particularly murderous. I wish I had a cleric of hers to put on my ship. She might be a little less keen to sink my ship if I had one of them fellas on my ship. But does she even have clerics, no. Just what are we supposed to do?" |
