Third Watch rising 17 ![]() Eye in the Crowd - Hallow Religious Tradition or Provocative Display of Indecency?by JOSHUASIGEP44, Staff Writer Palanthas - Palanthians have, over the years, grown accustomed to the presence of magical peoples. After centuries of living among us the wizarding world has gained wide acceptance in Palanthas. Most of these folks play useful roles in our society. Indeed, the majority of the citizenry would find the absence of their presence odd and unsettling. There are of course some hold outs in Palanthas that still harbor a deep mistrust and ill will towards all magical practitioners but that wizards and witches alike have been working on putting forth a positive image to convert these few holdouts for decades. Many would say their efforts are working because negative sentiments toward their practices are on the decline. Occasionally there is a slip up, and all the old prejudices resurface. Such a slip up occurred last Kirinor. On that day the Witches of the Circle of the Living Krynn held their celebration of Midsummer. Which is all well and good, but midway through ceremony in plain sight of the all on-lookers the witches shed their robes and danced naked by firelight. Through magical influence many spectators were drawn into doing the same. The public at large has reacted negatively. So the Herald wants to know... Should the city regulate all religious practices that have been deemed inappropriate of all ages? Joyle Yukely, Palanthas nobleman: "I don't trust the City Senate to regulate religions, but neither do I want my kids to see some wine drunk witch dancing around in her birthday suit. I respect everyone's right to practice their on religion, but I think if you're going do something like these folk did, do it in private or behind closed doors. So, yeah, I guess I wouldn't mind if someone was in charge of making sure this doesn't happen again. Perhaps some sort of ethics bards, or something like that." Fangrish Tublar, retired cobbler: "To the Abyss with the City Senate, and to the Abyss with these witches. I don't care for either of 'em. If I was in charge I would have locked every one of 'em involved up 'till they slept it off. In my day magical folk were respectful, courteous, and thoughtful. What on Krynn happened to common courtesy? In times past people like these dang witches stuck to the forest and were private, not public about this stuff. Now they're rubbing it in my face." Bernard Queing, Mishakite acolyte: "It would be a mistake for the Senate to try and control any religious practices. The Halls of Healing would never allow such a travesty to take place. That said, I do understand the concern, and the Witches of the Circle of the Living Krynn should have expected such a negative reaction. To my knowledge the celebration was not advertised, and even though the event was not closed to the public no one was invited. All spectators were there willingly." |
