Eye In the Crowd - Buyer Beware

Palanthas - Few places can strike fear in the heart of men on Krynn. If there were a list of those few names the Shoikan Grove would most assuredly be found as number one on that list. The grove is just something that the good people of the Cityhome have had to deal with. Most go their entire lives without ever getting nearer than a several hundred yards away from its tree line.

That said, the small number of residents that live in close proximity to the Shoikan Grove was understandably shaken when word reached the public's ears that the Shoikan Grove was expanding. The City Senate immediately contacted the Orders of High Sorcery to see what could be done. An envoy from the Tower of High Sorcery, headed by Black Robe Jenner Brace arrived in the city and was able to successfully contain the situation.

Crisis averted? Hardly! Apparently saplings from the Shoikan Grove are now available for purchase from many of Palanthas' many merchants. So the Herald wants to know...

Do you think it safe to buy and sell the Shoikan saplings?

Gerton Kanow, street sweeper: "Oh my, are they really selling those horrible trees? Those trees are horrifying. I have lived in Palanthas my whole life, and once a year I have go by the Grove and clean those streets, it's maddening. I wouldn't buy one, and no one else should either. Honestly what good can come from it?"

Yarel Droddy, White Robe wizard and member of the envoy from the Tower of High Sorcery: "My fellow wizards and I were told that those trees were going to be held under lock and key. We told the City officials that the saplings could be deadly. I understand that many of the buyers have expressed how useful the saplings can be. I have a theory that the trees' true powers will not developed fully until they are mature. That's extremely vague, I know. So I will give you this analogy. I imagine it's something like having a bear cub as a house pet. While the bear is a cub it is thought of as playful and loving, but as it matures it will eventually turn on it handlers. It merely does this because it is in its nature. These trees will be no different."

Wee Paterson, student at Palanthas University: "I would not mind having one. I understand there is the chance that the saplings might become dangerous, but it is really no different than a hundred other things. I drink ale, and smoke pipe weed. Are you going to tell me to stop that as well? In the end they're just trees that might retain some of their original power powers, but that could be damned useful. I say stay out of peoples business, and let them do with the trees as they please."
