Morning Watch rising 4 ![]() Eye In the Crowd – Has the Time for Retribution Come?by JOSHUASIGEP44, Staff Writer Palanthas - This past Bakukal the Palanthas City Senate voted, overwhelmingly to kill Grayson Howell's mind reading bill. After much backbiting and bickering among the senators the bill was defeated 11 for and 39 against. The now defunct bill has been the cause of many public protests and one violent attack carried out by the White Veil recently. Even though Palanthas was going through something of a civic upheaval the Senate tabled the bill for weeks, much to the disappointment of the citizens. Not usually known for their decisiveness the Senate quickly opened the floor for discussions on how to deal with the remnants of the White Veil after the bill was defeated. The Veil has claimed responsibility for the attack on the Labyrinth last week that left several merchants with only damaged goods. Many senators are vehemently seeking to punish all suspected members of the radical organization to the full extent of the law. Indeed, few citizens can remember a time when the City Senate has been more united under a singular cause. The White Veil has been clear that the organization would disband once the Mind Reading bill was defeated. So the Herald wants to know... "Should they City Senate actively pursue the members of the White Veil since they have now disbanded?" Yancy Daysmith, barkeep: "The threat of violence has passed. So why on Krynn should we need to worry about the White Veil anymore? The Senators are getting their pride on is all, and the taxpayers are gonna' end up payin' the bill. I can't stand noblemen and their elitist attitudes. Like they give a damn about the city or those of us that live in it. Honestly, do you folks think that if the Veil had not done what they did they Senate would have voted so quickly? I doubt it!" Sherman Townsend, pig farmer: "I ain't likin' the idea of some political zealot runnin' around Palanthas. Mark my word if the Senate does not do something soon there will be killin's next. It's the natural progression of things. They think that violence is the only way to solve things, well it ain't! If we don't round 'em up now next time there's some new tax or some dang crisis they will start terrorizing honest folk again." Davis Stuart, stone mason: "Listen, I understand the need to protest, and I appreciate the Veil's intentions, but I think there are better ways to go about it. Violence is a means to an end. What the Senate has failed to realize is that you cannot stamp out all resistance. If they send out guards and arrest suspected Veilers then there would only be more violence. As long as there is a left there will be a right, and the Senate cannot expect the people of this excellent city to agree with everything that comes down the tubes. |
