Vigilante Incident Resurfaces

Palanthas - Weeks have passed with no update since a local Mishakite damaged a water reservoir, pursuing what some called "vigilante justice" against an alleged follower of Morgion. While the Halls of Healing received much criticism (and minor praise) over the incident, no formal statement was ever made and public attention seemed quickly distracted by other concerns. The City Guard today released a brief on the investigation and concurrent legal proceedings.

The young priestess is identified as Aeletha Haruil (mother Solamnic, father Qualinesti). Haruil is under house arrest and cannot leave the Halls of Healing until the investigation concludes. According to temple staff, she was restricted to the temple for her own safety. On her one venture out, they claim, a group of Silvanesti elves began throwing refuse at her, shouting that she was a shame to the elven race and that they would cast her out again if they could.

Tension within the elven community has been on the rise ever since. "Elven leaders have long proposed creating housing for immigrant elves in a single district," Qualinesti elder and community leader Tholon Soldethyr explained. "Recently, some elves have begun urging officials to assist only the 'civilized Silvanesti,' hoping a smaller budget request will spur the city of Palanthas into action for their benefit." Another Qualinesti elder, asking to go unnamed, theorizes that the Haruil incident was a set-up intended to besmirch the reputation of western elves.

In the legal courts, Shinareans are pushing for the city to file charges against the Halls of Healing, while the Jolithans feel charges should be restricted to Haruil alone. Both groups feel an example should be set. Reactions to this news were shocked, and many feel the Shinareans are being excessively authoritarian. Local Sirrionites will hold a candlelight vigil to "express Palanthans' frustrations with the Haruil proceedings" says kender activist, artist, and matchmaker Mayflower Burningbrook.

As for the investigation itself, Captain Jacov Riviere of the City Guard states that officers have found two witnesses but only limited material evidence. "Haruil's general story is confirmed, but no clear leads suggest the identity of her foe. Additionally," he points out, "experts note a discrepancy between whether he is likely a follower of Morgion, as his clothing and demeanor imply, or Chemosh, as his choice of weapon and spell might imply."

Mention of this second dark god sparked paranoia about the Beloved, homicidal followers of Chemosh rumored to be wandering Ansalon. Several reports were filed of a group of street vendors selling anti-undead cream, hawking it as a bargain although it was later proved a fraud. Sources claim that the swindlers managed to escape with ample steel before being confronted, but official documents approving their product were found on file at the Merchant's Guild. The papers were signed by Xander uth Alrian, a high ranking cleric of Shinare and the strongest proponent of filing charges against the Halls of Healing.
