The Staff of Magius Transformed Into a Hoopak!

Palanthas - The legendary Staff of Magius, missing since the Summer of Chaos, was found this week by a kender.

He had converted it to a hoopak.

The City Guard was called to the Trade Exchange late Bracha evening to investigate reports of a kender sorcerer disturbing the peace. A member of the Solamnic Auxiliary accompanied the Watch as a precaution.

Around Afterwatch the guards found a kender man perched atop a broken streetlamp waving an ornate glowing hoopak at passers-by and shouting the word, "Shirak," repeatedly.

"The light from the staff seemed to fade and intensify depending how often the kender yelled this word," said Commander Richard uth Koeckert, a spokesman for the City Guard.

When the kender refused to leave his perch, claiming he was performing a civil duty by providing light to the darkened street, the Auxiliary Mage paralyzed him with a spell and magically levitated him to the ground.

Both the staff and the kender were immediately taken into custody and handed over to the Orders of High Sorcery by the Auxiliary Mage.

The hoopak is described in the City Guard incident report as being decorated with a golden dragon claw clutching a blue crystal ball at one end and the typical kender sling on the other.

"Initial magical divinations indicate that this is indeed the legendary staff wielded by Magius, Raistlin Majere, and his nephew Palin," said Luthen Calador, a spokesman for the Orders of High Sorcery. "Although it has been somehow been magically changed to accommodate a kender's stature and weapon preference. Further study will eventually reveal how this was done," Calador said.

The kender claims to have "found" the staff in a ditch alongside the Knight's High Road more then two weeks ago.

Skitto Underfoot, 22, was found to possess no obvious talent for wizardry or wild magic by the Orders of High Sorcery and was released to the custody of the City Guard.

Underfoot is being held at City Watch headquarters awaiting trial or his imminent escape. He has been charged with disturbing the peace and lesser misuse of a magical item.
