Third Watch rising 16 ![]() Eye In the Crowd – Should Draconians Be Allowed to Run the Harbor?by JOSHUASIGEP44, Staff Writer Palanthas - This past Majetag the Palanthas Port Authority reported to the Merchants Guild Chairman, informing her of the Port Authority's acceptance of the Teyr Trading Company's bid to control all dock operations. No, don't bother rereading that last bit. You read the passage correctly: the Teyr Trading Company, as in the draconians of Teyr. Weightmat, a gnomish shipping company was originally awarded the port contract, but the Herald has since learned that Weightmat has now conceded part of that contract to the draconians from Teyr. The Port Authority convened in a closed session and approved the Teyr Trading Company's bid. Apparently the Port Authority had been laboring under a misapprehension. According to Jana Uth Korrin, chairman of the Palanthas Merchants Guild, she had no idea that Weightmat operated in conjuncture with draconians. So this reporter would like to know... "Do you feel that the Palanthas Port Authority is putting the safety of the citizens of Palanthas first by letting the Teyr Trading Company control our docks?" Sirius Waylon, cook at the Red Brick Inn: "What in the Abyss is going on? Whose bright idea was it to let draconians in the city at all? People hate them, and for good reason. Those devils are murders, and they have spilled Palanthas blood before. Sure that was a long time ago, but old wounds run deep. What good can come of this? Besides I ain't in no mind to let them decide what gets brought in and out of this city. The Port Authority doesn't give a damn. They will be locked up in their offices counting their steel while the city is being burnt to the ground. Deviton Keplar, Sanction's ambassador to Palanthas: "I understand that there are a lot of hard feelings toward this race, but the good people of this city need to bury the hatchet, so to speak. The draconians of Teyr have long ago paid for their past transgressions and wish only to be allowed the same opportunities as other races. Palanthas could take a page out of my fine city's book. We have had dealings with the Teyr Trading Company for years now, and they have not put one claw out of line. Honestly this hatred is just masked ignorance. The Port Authority has done the right thing, and I can't imagine a better company to handle the docks." Sir Gregory uth Markham, retired Solamnic Knight of the Rose: These young kids running the port have forgotten where we came from. I was a three-year-old kid back in the Blue Lady's War. Back then, a swarm of those dracs came down on Palanthas from their flying castle. They burned the Temple of Paladine. They attacked the library. It's not like these guys are a new generation of innocent little dracs. They live as long as elves, so they're the same guys who killed my parents and family. I don't know anyone who didn't lose a loved one in that battle. And now the Port Authority trusts these dracs to help us? I don't believe it. Not one bit." |
