Eye In the Crowd – Is Mind Reading a Blessing or a Curse?

Palanthas - Last week Grayson Halliwell, a member of the Solamnic Auxilairy, brought a bill before the City Senate that, if passed, would legalize mind reading at all entrances to the city. As Halliwell himself said the ultimate goal behind the radical bill is to "greatly reduce the occurrences of criminal activity". So the herald wants to know...

"How do you feel about the possibility of the City Senate authorizing mind reading at the city entrances?"

Harold Windlass, Dock Foreman - "Whelp, I think it's a great move by the City Senate. We have all seen the kind of riff raff that has been coming in and out of the city gates. I've been seeing all sorts of races like elves and dwarves coming to our fair city, and those are the ones who need to be scrutinized the most I say! Them elves looking for a new home, and the city's already crowded enough. I don't want them thinking they can all move in here, and set up shop! Plus, with them Dark Knights now having a new leader, you can be sure they are cooking up some scheme to retake the Cityhome. So yeah, I am fully behind the City Senate in such a decision."

Wendle Cobblestone, Cobbler -"It don't matter much to me, I'm just a cobbler. If them senators are gonna waste their time trying find out that someone wants to buy some shoes, they can go ahead and waste their time. In the meantime folks are gonna be stuck at the gates instead of buying my top rain boots. Then I'll bet them senators will be raising our taxes to pay for these mind readers, and then what's we got to make sure them mind readers are doing the job? I bet a nice piece of steel given to the right guy will let someone through. Are we gonna have mind readers reading the mind reader? Bah, if you ask me the problem's keeping them kender out. Them kender are mad, they take one shoe, one shoe! Now I'm out a pair 'cause nobody wants to buy one shoe. Yeah, if them mind readers can keep out kender I say it's money spent good."

Narcissa Tumbler, Bar Maid – "What in the bleeding Abyss has gotten into their heads? I can't honestly believe that the Senate would approve this. I'm all for lowering the crime rate, but this is just too much. My thoughts are my own, and I don't want some dang mage shifting through 'em. Even though I might want to hang some of my customers by the neck does not mean I will act on it, and the mages will not be able to read that. I will give 'em something to read alright."
