Eye In the Crowd – Mishakal Holds Out Her Healing Hand

Palanthas - On Palast, Frostkolt the Palanthas Herald's editor reported on the increased authority granted the Church of Mishakal by the City Senate. The church will have no jurisdiction in matters not concerning the physical and mental health of Palanthas, but in cases that do the City senate will rely heavily on the church's opinions, judgment, and expertise.

Anticipating the cost of additional programs the church would incur due to its new authority leaders of the church took a proactive finical strike. Jabkar Elizard, head priestess of Mishakal, sought an audience with Selinda Du Change. Together they decided to throw a masked charity ball with all proceeds benefiting the churches coffers.

Thanks to a resourceful kender who shall remain nameless, this reporter was granted entrance to the biggest and most exclusive party in Palanthas history. Before being tossed out I was able to ask the new Magistrate, Lady Gyanna Blueshade, one quick question. Two passersby on the Central Plaza were asked the same question.

"What is your reaction to the churches increased authority, and masked charity ball?"

Lady Gyanna Blueshade, noblewoman and new Palanthian Magistrate - "The Church of Mishakal, which is one of the oldest institutions in Palanthas, has been a staple to the Palanthian faithful for years. It has long held its doors open to the public. When many others of the same ilk are locked shut members of our community go there asking to be rid of their sicknesses, homeless begging to fill their bellies, and the spiritually lost seek answers to impossibly difficult questions. At great expense to the temple not one person is turned away and these new responsibilities only mean there will be a greater drain on the church's coffers. Why, the temple of the Healing Hand is the very definition of benevolence, and I'm glad to do my part."

Giles Farha, blacksmith and veteran of the War of Souls - "Greater authority, hell fire! I've been living in this burned out burg nigh' on fifty year and I ain't never once met summ'em, church or no, that knew how'da act when theys given more power. I tell you what, no extra help'en of authority was gonna stop that outbreak we had in Lower Cluster. I tell ya' what a nasty business that was, every'en breaking out in sores as big as my thumb. Ah, it's small matter really. Cause here we are, and there she is, Mishakal, asking for more steel. Tell me this; what in da'blue blazes of my forge does she need more steel for anyway? That temple's got more steel than I got holes in my apron."

Noah Briand, local artisan - "Listen I appreciate the Church of Mishakal and all the wonderful things it does for the community. So don't get me wrong, but I'm just not religious. I have seen and heard more than most, and I choose to follow my own path. So I'm not exactly sure how I feel about it. I will tell you this; the people of this city elect senators. It's their job to make these kinds of decisions. Who am I to second-guess the will of the senate, or the will of the people?"
