Flotsam Delegation Talks Sparks Uproar

Palanthas - Uproar insued in the City Senate yesterday with the recent release of the news that a delegation from Flotsam will be visiting Palanthas in a few weeks. The delegation will contain the Lord of Flotsam, Lord Toede, members of his court, and an honor guard composed of high ranking Toedaic Knights. The delegation will be staying in Palanthas for two weeks to discuss trade and a formal allliance with Palanthas.

"This meeting will help solidify a relationship with the Eastern Cities of Ansalon," Lord Regent Bakkard du Chagne told the Senate today. "We can form profitable trade ties with an group that hasn't approached us since before the first Cataclysm. This will also be a good time to introduce discussions of an alliance with Flotsam and other eastern Ansalon cities."

Some members of the Senate seemed rather pleased that the delegation is coming. "I, personally, think that the Lord Regent of Palanthas is making an excellent choice by inviting this delegation," said Palanthian Senator Demetrius Rendevald from his manor. "It will give us a chance to show those ambassadors the true grandeur of Palanthian civilization."

But other people aren't so happy about the delegation. Lord Pilivan Sasmere, a powerful Senator and the owner of Sasmere Shipping, is furious that the delegation is coming. "Us Palanthians have everything we need here!" the irate Senator proclaimed from his home. "We have no need to open up foolish trade agreements with these barbarians!"

Quisandatha, an elf who has recently immigrated to Palanthas with her four children, says she remembers Lord Toede when he was a Dragon Highlord. "I have no desire to see that foul beast come near us again," she said. "He's a torturing monster and I am disgusted with the Lord of Palanthas for allowing this delegation. If we ally with darkness, we become darkness ourselves."

The recent news of the delegation has also surprised and provoked negative emotions from the Knights of Solamnia. "I frankly cannot see the reason for allowing such a delegation from the east to Palanthas," stated Sir Damion Guerman, Knight of the Rose, from Solanthus. "Furthermore, I find the concept of these 'Toedaic Knights' intriguing, if not surprising. I was unaware of the existance of such an order until this afternoon."

The Knight, who was visiting a friend in Palanthas, stated that he was rather disappointed in the Palanthian government for allowing such a delegation. "We don't need to form relationships with those people," Sir Guerman answered our reporter when he was asked his opinion. "It is a show of weakness that we seek alliance with such people. Plus, the action of an 'honor guard' and the lack of trust thereof in the Knights of Solamnia is insulting."

The delegation is scheduled to arrive in a few weeks. Their residence while in Palanthas has not been confirmed.
