EngineersArticle written by UzielThe Engineers form the ruling class of the kingdom of Baltch, in the southeastern part of Taladas. These individuals are trained at university in one of the schools of engineering science, as well as in law, rhetoric, strategy and assessment. The Engineers of Baltch are more than master builders, and often serve as military commanders and strategists, ambassadors, judges and so forth. The Engineers hold all the key government positions in the kingdom of Baltch, and from their number comes the Master Engineer, ruler of the nation. Aside from running the government, the Engineers are also responsible for the defense of the nation. A number of the Engineers are trained soldiers, however the majority of the populace is not. The Engineers raise work gangs when needed, and arm their fledgling militia within record time. The ability of the Engineers to organise a massive armed force in almost no time at all, deters most enemies very quickly, even if the Baltchians are by and large, not trained for war. The Engineers are also responsible for designing and buildings the ships of the nation, which in itself is important, as much of the livelihood of the Baltchians comes from the sea. Wood is sparse and rare on Baltch, so the Engineers send their people either into Neron or the Great Reed Delta to gather wood. The Engineers have led many great expeditions from their ships, a number of which have circled Taladas and reached the Imperial League on the opposite side of the continent. References
