The Seawall

The Seawall is a system of dikes, breakwaters, levees and canals that have been developed by the engineers of Baltch, as a means of protecting their nation from the sea. The Seawall encloses the majority of the island, except for a small gap that serves as both a port and drainage point which faces the Great Reed Delta.

Whilst the Seawall cannot stop the worst of the storms that rage in these waters, it can at least lessen the impact of them. A maintenance crew operates on each section of the Seawall to ensure it is kept in perfect working order at all times. For a few days every year, every one of the Baltchians serves in one of the work gangs that services the Seawall. It is a recognised part of their lives and the ongoing security and safety of the people and their nation.
