Payan MakoArticle written by UzielThe Payan Mako are a series of Human tribes that live in The Fisheries in the southern region of Taladas. By and large, they lead quiet lives, and greatly enjoy fishing in the waters around their settlements. As a people, the Payan Mako are short of stature, standing at around five feet, are bronze-skinned and solid of build. As part of their custom, the males shave their heads, whilst the females have their hair closely cropped. Clothing is minimal in the tropical realm of the Fisheries, with men wearing little other than bark and fish skin loincloths, and women wearing a bark sarong. In battle, the Payan Mako employ the use of palm fiber shields, but use little other armor. They wield short bows and spears, but also have some metal edged weapons kept aside for dangerous battles. The settlements of the Payan Mako comprise of a group of wooden and thatched houses set on poles along the beach. The huts have a fire pit in the centre which is used to generate smoke to drive away insects. Other than houses, small granaries are found in most settlements, which are used to store dried fish and fruits. The Payan Mako rarely leave their settlements except to either fish, or to go inland to cut down trees for their fishing canoes. The Payan Mako are a quiet and simple folk, although they do closely guard their lands against invaders. They are known to anger or raise arms against any who come to their settlements on Syldar in large numbers or carrying weapons. They avoid the "demon-men" (Hobgoblins), who in turn generally leave the Payan alone, but are enemies with the Shark Men. The Payan Mako speak their own dialect, and the Payan Language has loose ties with the tongue of Cha'asii. References
