Makau are the sorcerers that lead the various tribes of the Ice People of the Panak Desert. They were once advisors and guides for the Ice People, but following the loss of the gods after the Great Destruction, the Ice People turned on the shamans who originally lead them and turned to the makau instead.

The makau became the leaders of the tribes, many of them wearing cowls or headdresses made from animals to distinguish themselves from the rest of the tribe. Most makau wield considerable magic and are rightly feared by the enemies of the Ice People. Some are even guarded or advised by spirits of previous makau, increasing their individual power and influence even further.
