FlareArticle written by Kranar DroginFlare (? – 383 AC) was a thirty-eight foot long temperamental Blue Dragon, and the mount for Steel Brightblade. Since Flare was still young, she did not develop the patience for spellcasting, and instead liked to just use teeth, claws, and her lightning breath weapon in battle. She believed that any enemy should be respected, but not praised. She also had a deep personal hatred of Mages, but respected Warriors.
Flare trained with Sara Dunstan, and grew to love her as much as any dragon could lover a mortal. She was devastated when Sara betrayed the Knighthood, and viewed her as a traitor when she left and tried to take her son with her. From that point on, Flare doted on Steel. She was Steel's mount through the early part of the Chaos War, but did not fly with him in the attack on the High Clerist's Tower. When the call was put out for dragons and their knights to ride to the Abyss and confront Chaos, Flare was reunited with her rider. Flare fought bravely in the Abyss, time and again bringing her rider in to strike Chaos at great personal injury. Eventually though she succumbed from her injuries, and fell to the floor of the Abyss dead. They were able to draw a drop of blood from Chaos though, but Usha Majere was not able to capture it. For Flare's sacrifice for the Knighthood and Krynn, the Knights of Neraka will always remember her. References
