Battle of Fangoth Field

Article written by Kranar Drogin

The Battle of Fangoth was one of many battles during the Chaos War. Lord Harbard uth Farnan commanded 5,000 soldiers, 4,000 yeoman infantry, 400 Knights, and 600 Qualinesti Elves, in the defense of the city of Fangoth from the forces of the Knights of Takhisis. The Dark Knights were led by Burnond Everride who led 3,500, 1,000 of which were mercenary halberdiers from Saifhum, 500 Dark Knights, and 2,000 Goblins, against the Solamnics and won.

The Battle

From the east Lord Everride brought his Dark Knights against the city. This was the only direction that the city could be attacked from, and seeing the smaller number of the Dark Knights, Lord uth Farnan led his forces to meet them. Lord uth Farnan arrayed his forces in an arc to protect the city, and ordered the archers to the front.

Lord Everride formed his goblins into a solid phalanx six ranks deep to attack, and Dark Knight taskmasters with whips behind them, and ordered them to charge. The archers loosed many arrows but could not stop the horde from coming. They were ordered back, and the yeoman met the goblin charge. The goblins had 12-foot long pikes, and were able to kill the yeoman at ease. The Solamnic Knights were ordered to go around the yeoman and attack the flank of the goblins, but the halberdiers were waiting for them.

When the Solamnics attacked the halberdiers, they were cut to pieces. The hooks on the halberds were used to pull the Knights off their horses. Then the Dark Knights were ordered to charge the yeomen, and they broke and ran to the safety of the city. The city was not prepared for a prolonged siege, and surrendered six days later. Those Solamnic soldiers were given a choice, serve the Dark Knights or be maimed.
