Grath Horuth-Bok

Article written by Uziel

Grath Horuth-Bok (? AC – 424 AC) was a male Minotaur who served as second in command of the Sixth Imperial Legion under Marshal Barreth Forlo. He was a gray-furred minotaur with yellow eyes that was considered muscular and large for his race. He had chosen to never marry; as the idea of a wife was something more trouble than it was worth, in his opinion. Grath not only served under Barreth, but considered the human commander as his best friend as well. During the Thenol Campaign, Grath saved Barreth's life when he removed a magical arrow that had struck his commander, even though it burnt the minotaur's hand leaving permanent scars. At the end of the campaign in 421 AC, Grath came across Barreth shortly after his commander had killed Bishop Ondelos. His friend was in such a state, that Grath organised for one of the mages of the legion to cast a spell on Barreth to make him forget the horrors of the final fighting.

In 424 AC, when the Sixth Imperial Legion were recalled back to Kristophan, Barreth announced his retirement and gave command over to Grath. The legion escorted Barreth to the fringes of Coldhope, and then Grath lead the legion to quell some trouble with brigands in the region of Okami.

In the summer of 424 AC, Grath arrived at Coldhope Keep where he discovered that Barreth and his wife Essana Forlo were expecting. On congratulating Barreth, he then led his former commander to the encampment of Duke Rekhaz An-Thurn, and tried to convince his friend to join the duke's cause in winning the position of emperor. Barreth refused and left his friend once more. Only a week later, Grath saw his friend return to the duke's camp, warning of an invasion by the Uigan. Duke Rekhaz treated Barreth with near contempt, and Grath almost attacked the duke in rage. However Barreth calmed his friend, and Grath then swore to ride with his comrade (against the duke's orders) to fight the Uigan.

In the autumn of 424 AC, Grath and Barreth led the defence of the Imperial League against the Uigan, making their stand on the shores of the Tiderun Strait. Grath and Chovuk Boyla singled each other out late in the battle. Chovuk transformed into a Steppe-tiger, launched himself upon the minotaur and slew the brave warrior.
