Merfolk are aquatic humanoids that live in Krynn's oceans. They have the upper torsos of Humans and the lower torsos of fish. Merfolk are descended from humans changed by the Graygem. They typically live in semi-nomadic tribes.

In the Age of Mortals, the merfolk of the Courrain Ocean were terrorized by the Sea Dragon Brynseldimer. This made them more brutal and callous.

Some Sages believe that the Children of the Sea are a result between Sirines or Merfolk mating with humans.

Machunestoo

There are clans of merfolk that live near the Sea Elf country of Watermere. The sea elves collectively call the merfolk territories Machunestoo.

Other names

Female merfolk are also known as mermaids and merwomen. Male merfolk are also known as mermen.

Kender Tales

One source said that the Sirines that lived off the Seldjuki coast before the Cataclysm were a type of merfolk, but since they did not have a lower fish-like appearance this was probably just a play on words.
