Darden (334 AC - ? AC) was the son of Erwyn and older brother to Emberlynn, who grew up in the small village of Alban in Solamnia. He had tall, had long hair, and was bow legged from his long years of riding. While growing up, he was a best friend with another boy named Camron.

When the War of the Lance broke out in 348 AC, Darden was only fourteen and kept getting into trouble, stealing things that were not his just to occupy his time. Eventually his father signed him up to become a squire of a Knight of Solamnia, and Darden went off to war with his master.

Over the long hard years, Darden witnessed many Atrocities, including the burning of Balladmore while serving in Kayolin. While the city burned, Darden had to escape by jumping into the water and got out of his armor. While floating in the water he watched as the city burned to the ground. This would eventually lead to him having nightmares later in his life.

By the summer of 352 AC, most of the fighting had completed and Darden returned home. There he found that his sister Em had befriended what she called her "Pet". This was actually a baby Black Dragon, and Darden tried to kill it right away. His sister wouldn't allow it and saved the dragon from death. Together she and her Pet ran away from home, and Darden followed to stop her.

Em would hide in a cave, but little did she know that a Cave Spider lived there. She was captured in its webbing, and Darden came to rescue her only to be caught in the web himself. Em's little Pet came to their rescue and they were freed. Darden allowed for the dragon to stay in the cave and he returned to his home with Em.
