Shemnara (? AC - ? AC) was the spiritual leader of the small village of Potter's Mill in the years following the War of the Lance. This blind older woman had flowing white hair that almost matched the white cloth she had bound around her eyes. Her clothes were always simple, but she clearly projected an aura of authority. Using her visions received from the liquid of the Dragon Well, she protected her village for many years.

Early Life

Shemnara was not destined for a life like her humble beginnings. When she was younger, Shemnara and her brother, Tully, went exploring the Broken Citadel of Karoc-Tor and stumbled into the room of the Dragon Well. Tully threw a rock into the powerful milky white liquid and it splashed into Shemnara's face. This tragic accident scarred her face and robbed her of her sight but also gave her the ability to see the future. Tully returned and retrieved a basin of the magical liquid from the Dragon Well for her visions.

Trouble with Warlords (353 AC)

The years passed and times were hard for the village of Potter's Mill. The warlord Gadion and his men demanded tribute against the village and year after year the defenseless members of Potter's Mill paid the payment. The War of the Lance came and provided some of the citizens with military training, which they came back with and started to protect the town from Gadion's men. Gadion was furious at these helpless villagers starting to stand up to his men and attacked the town with his men. They were beaten back and the town of Potter's Mill was safe for the moment. Shemnara foresaw Gadion attacking again with his magical creature called the Beast. And soon, Gadion did attack with the Beast, killing livestock and then townsfolk, demanding that these attacks would continue until they paid his tribute. Her brother Tully died defending the village and that only strengthen her resolve to end Gadion's reign of terror.

The Vision of Hope

Shemnara was distraught at this situation and looked to the magical liquid for help. It was at this time she foresaw the coming of heroes, young heroes who would defeat Gadion and his Beast once and for all. She sent the young boy Mudd into the woods to retrieve the young heroes. The young heroes, Davyn, Catriona Goodlund, Nearra, Elidor, and Sindri Suncatcher came to the village and promised to help in exchange for information on reviving Nearra's lost memories. Once again the village of Potter's Mill had a chance of survival.

The Aftermath

The heroes defeated Gadion and the Beast and Shemnara gave them the information they needed. Her village was safe and that was all that mattered.

Kender Tales

The novel states that Shemnara was a healer, given power by the Gods since she was young. Considering the gods just two years before the story takes place, this would have been impossible.
