Cairngorn KeepArticle written by Uziel & trogers81Located southeast of the town of Tresvka in the Heartlund region of Solamnia is Cairngorn Keep. It was once home to the powerful sorceress Asvoria, but was later claimed prior to the War of the Lance by the wizard Maddoc. Cairngorn Keep stands alone of a wooded hillside, with its base obscured from sight by thick evergreens. 24 foot grey walls surround the whole keep. Inside the gates, many small building made of grey and black stones spread away from the center of the keep. In the center of the keep, a central tower juts above the foliage, and a vast gate blocks the primary entrance into the keep.
Cairngorn stands surrounded by a large forest with certain paths leading to the gray towers. The grounds surrounding the keep are dangerous and filled with many different traps and beasts, like the hounds trained to kill or Death Spiders crafted by foul black magics. Without an invitation by the present owner, it was almost suicide to enter the paths to Cairngorn. Underneath the forest surrounding Cairngorn lay a labyrinth of tunnels and passages developed by the former owner, Asvoria. Discovered by Maddoc's adopted son, Davyn, when a section of ground collapsed, the black wizard sealed off the entrance and tried to widen the tunnels to find the secrets of Asvoria's treasure. Within those dangerous tunnels lies some of her greatest treasures protected after her death by secret doors, illusions, and a powerful undead dracolich named Frostclaw. Cairngorn Keep lies near many farms where Asvoria and Maddoc used to find servants, willing or otherwise, to serve in the keep. Also nearby, Ravenscar, a town of mercenaries and thieves provide muscle and protection for the master of Cairngorn, whoever that might be. RoomsChamber of Hours References
