Grand LyceumArticle written by AmbroThe Grand Lyceum is the largest of the nine crystal domes of the Citadel of Light. It is connected to the Sensitivity Lyceum and Healing Lyceum by two pairs of hallways called arcades. The dome is approximately three hundred feet in diameter. The Walk takes travelers to the main entrance of the Citadel in the Grand Lyceum. This dome is considered the heart of the Citadel of Light. Pre War of SoulsFor a time all mystics of the Citadel lived in this dome, but Dark Knights infiltrated the fellowship and Goldmoon had the mystics distributed throughout the complex. In 398 AC the Silver Dragon Mirror became allied with the Citadel of Light. He was given most of the top level to serve as his lair. Beryllinthranox's AttackIn 421 AC, the Green Dragon Beryllinthranox and her forces attacked the Citadel of Light. During this attack, all the domes became at least partially uninhabitable and the top three floors of the Grand Lyceum collapsed. The twin golden Dragon statues that flanked the Citadel entrance were destroyed. Post War of SoulsThe Citadel's reconstruction began almost immediately under the guidance of Cassandra Renay and Jemtal Oermann. The twin golden dragon statues were not rebuilt at the entrance, but a similar monument was erected along The Walk. Levels of the Grand LyceumThe dome consists of seven levels, including the basement. Level 1The Citadel's basement includes a root cellar, storerooms, granary, kitchens, and washing rooms. Level 2 (Ground Level)The entrance to the entire complex is located here. After the entrance is the Grand Hall. Continuing straight will eventually lead to a balcony on the other side of the dome. The balcony has stairs that lead down to the Citadel's courtyard that contains the Hedge Maze and the Silver Stair. This level also contains numerous reception and conference rooms. Level 3In 406 AC, the Citadel opened an orphanage on this level. The suggestion for this came from Shen Korras and was fully funded by him. The orphanage has beds for about a hundred children. The floor also contains classrooms, in addition to the learning facilities found in the Mentalism Lyceum, and play rooms for the children. Orphans from around Ansalon are gathered and many stay with the Citadel as they get older and become Mystics or Citadel Guardians. After Beryl's attack, the orphans had to be split into three groups and housed elsewhere in the Citadel while reconstruction took place. The orphanage is now run by a former orphan Allika Oliveblossom. Another former orphan to live here is the now famous Mina. Level 4This level contains guest quarters for traveling mystics and other visitors. Level 5This level contains the main barracks for the Citadel Guardians along with the Citadel's treasury and armory. Level 6This level contains permanent residential quarters. It also used to house Goldmoon's guard directly under her chambers. Goldmoon decided after an attack on her that it was not good to live isolated in her chambers and that it went against the values of the fellowship. So she decided to have certain people live nearby. This guard included select aspirants, Citadel Masters, and her personal bodyguard. Level 7The top level contains Mirror's lair and used to contain the chambers to the late Goldmoon. A large part of the roof of the Grand Lyceum is left open. This was originally done for stargazing, but when Mirror became allied with the Citadel of Light he was given the open area along with most of the rest of the level to serve as his lair. He uses to the open area to lounge in and take flight from, but prefers to meet those wishing to speak with him in an adjoining sitting room, in which he takes the form of a human. After the War of Souls and the Citadel's reconstruction, Mirror was given back his lair and quarters were set aside for his companion Odila Windlass when they visit. Goldmoon's chambers were oval in shape with curved, polished, white marble walls. The room contained gauzy curtains and birch wood furniture. Visitors would feel calm and tranquil in her chambers. An important item in the room was a magical full-length mirror. Given to Goldmoon by Palin Majere, she could use it for Divination. It is unknown if these chambers were reconstructed after Beryl's attack and what if anything in them survived. References
