The Pit (Ravenscar)Article written by trogers81One of the few permanent fixtures to present day Ravenscar was a place called The Pit. Located in the very center of town is a 30-foot wide by 20-foot deep hole that was aptly called the Pit. The Pit was a savage place where the baleful men of Ravenscar bet on animal and monster fights. The walls and floor of the fighting arena are lined with granite blocks and there is a metal grate in the middle for draining the blood and water. Sharp iron spikes a foot long cover the walls of the Pit and are tinged with dried red blood and rust. Monsters in the Pit are trained to fight and to cease on command. Blowing a whistle will halt the creatures allowing the caretakers to remove the animals to their cages and heal them for the next fight. All types of creatures are seen in the Pit, such as dire wolves, bears, and mutated beast such as a boar-lizard combination. During the Fourth Age, the black wizard Maddoc paid Bolthor, the leader of Ravenscar, for his services with these monstrous creations. References
