Calinhand was once a minor port town along the southeastern edge of Balifor, situated slightly southwards of the Lonesome Peaks. Prior to the Age of Mortals, Calinhand was a focal point of trade in the southern reaches of Balifor, known as a meeting place for farmers, fishmongers, elven traders and Khurish merchants. The town was kept free of pirates and other folk of ill repute, and was frequently used as a meeting point for the Kagonesti and Silvanesti to trade with one another. When the War of the Lance broke out, the Black Dragonarmy seized control of Calinhand, and the elves were forced to flee Calinhand or otherwise be arrested or killed. Trade decreased in the port town, and it shrunk in importance as a settlement of the region. In the Age of Mortals, the dragon Malystryx destroyed the town as she created the Desolation. Kender TalesSome texts refer to the town as Calihand, although most scholars concur that the town's true name is indeed Calinhand. References
