Bas-Ohn KorafArticle written by Kranar DroginBas-Ohn Koraf (Born: 323 AC), also known as Koraf or Kof, was the first mate on the ship Perechon, captained by Maquesta Kar-Thon. He was an expert shipbuilder, and could repair just about anything that went wrong on a ship. Koraf had over the years felt a stirring in his heart for Maq, but he wasn't willing to bring this up to her thinking that she wouldn't like his hideous appearance. He was always known to be a loyal first mate, a skilled mariner, and would lay down his life for Maq. Koraf was known to have had a deep voice, was very strong and tall, and loved to sail the sea. His temper was more refined than most minotaurs, but if you were to get him angry he will turn to savagery quickly. He didn't like to swim, and hated the kuo-toa for some unknown reason. Early YearsIn 328 AC, Koraf started his apprenticeship to a master shipbuilder named Efroth in the Horned Bay shipyards of Nethosak. He was the star pupil of Efroth, the best in his class that caused him to have enemies among the other classmates. In 340 AC, Koraf was suppose to take his final test by building his own ship and would sail it with his master alone. The other classmates each sailed theirs with successes, but when it came to Koraf's turn something went horribly wrong. As Koraf was sailing with his master, the ship began to leak after only going a mile-and-a-half. The ship then broke apart and the mast came down and smacked Efroth in the head. Koraf lived, but his master was killed in the process and not only did he lose the test, but he lost his master. That night he heard one of his classmates named Diro, bragging about how he had sabotaged Koraf's ship and made him fail his test. Before his friends could silence him, Koraf heard, and he strangled Diro to death. Koraf violated minotaur law by killing another minotaur outside of the Great Circus. Koraf was sentenced to die in the Circus for his crime, and was sold to another minotaur named Attat Es-Divaq. He would fight in the Circus for the next four years. Maquesta Kar-ThonIn 344 AC, Koraf was freed to help an Ergothian pirate named Maquesta Kar-Thon in finding a morkoth for his master Attat. When he arrived on the ship, Perechon, Maq promoted him to first mate. Eventually they capture the morkoth and bring it back to Attat, but they were able to overcome Attat and the morkoth killed him. Koraf left with Maq to sail the seas with her crew. War of the LanceWhen the War of the Lance broke out across Ansalon, Koraf continued to sail with Maq, trying to make a living by outrunning the Dragonarmy ships. He was on board when Maq took on the Heroes of the Lance in 352 AC, and sank with the ship when it was sailed into the Maelstrom while trying to escape Dragon Highlord Kitiara Uth Matar. Koraf was rescued by the Dargonesti Elves below the sea and brought to the ruins of Istar. While resting in the ruins of Istar, Maq and her crew assist Apoletta and Zebulah in their quest to discover what sort of terrors were going on below the ocean's surface. He returned to the surface with the crew and found that the Perechon was spit back up and found on a far shore. Koraf along with the other sailors termed the ship 'unsinkable' after that. Summer of ChaosDuring the Summer of Chaos in 383 AC, Koraf was still sailing the Blood Sea with Maq and her loyal crew including Lendle Chafka. While on the sea, a major squall hits the ship and only due to Lendle's rowing machine on the ship were they all able to save the ship and limp her back into port at Cuda for repairs. InconsistenciesIn some instances, Koraf was said to have been born in 330 AC, but this date is incorrect for his birth. References
