Quivalin V, the Defender

Article written by Uziel

Quivalin V (? - 2120 PC) was the Emperor of Ergoth from 2193 PC to 2120 PC. The Quivalin line came into prominence whilst the previous emperor Ackal VII was on his deathbed. Since Ackal VII's wife was barren and he had no offspring, he named Quivalin V and his line as his successors. The newly crowned emperor found himself under fire in the first year of being ruler, after Ergothian hunters shot and killed the Silvanesti ruler, Sithel Twice-Blest. Racial tensions sprung up between Ergothians and Elves.

Emperor Quivalin V mustered his armies, under the command of his three generals Giarna, Xalthan, and Barnet, and sent them forward into a bloody engagement, which would later become known as the Kinslayer War. After years of fighting and the deaths of his three generals, Quivalin V eventually relented and agreed to a truce with the elven prince Kith-Kanan.

The emperor was described as a powerful figure, with gray hair and a similarly gray beard. His green eyes surveyed all around him, and he was known to possess an iron will. Quivalin V was known by several names, including Quivalin Soth V, the Defender, and Ullves.
