Austan Gavynus

Article written by Ninrandir the White Fox

Austan Gavynus (? AC - ? AC) was one of a kind for his race. With the Solamnic Knights considered Paladine's champions, yet only found on Ansalon, Austan of Taladas made his own way as a paladin of the same god, and probably the only inhabitant that knew Paladine.

Early Life

Always loved by his four older siblings, Austan was educated by them to be always strong and honorable. He was also carefully instructed to avoid blindly following all the traditions of Minotaur Culture, understanding that much of it would only bring misery. When his family died in a fire, Austan was sent to the League School. There, he witnessed the cruel iron-fisted reality that most of his race had embraced, which was very tempting.

Thanks to his upbringing by his family, Austan did not give in and subtly passed onto the Legions military. But when refusing to slay some Elves, Austan was removed from the army and he started to question his purpose in life.

Conversion

Austan's purpose was answered when he rescued Belusais, a shipwrecked Cleric of Paladine, at the seashore. Sharing the night together, they discussed many topics, include Belusais's home continent of Ansalon, and especially of Paladine. By morning, Austan welcomed Belusais's god as his own.

When assassins murdered Belusais, Austan was so grieved that he swore an oath to Paladine that he would continue to spread the word to Taladas.

Austan devoted himself to what he considers is "saving" the minotaur race from the evil corruption that he felt everywhere. He was always careful when taking a job offer that it did not hide evil purposes. His primary goal was to make the Imperial League benefit everyone, which would be the death penalty, were his motives discovered. Among Austan's students was the fellow minotaur Karathos.
