TheraArticle written by Uziel
Thera is one of the five great cities of the Imperial League, and is located in the central part of the Eragala region. The city is set southeast of Morgad and northeast of Kristophan. The bustling city is considered the pleasure capital of the League, and is where the wealthy and powerful members of the League go to relax in the hot springs or in the cool surrounding forests. Visitors to Thera are forced to stay in overpriced inns, whilst only the most wealthy in the empire can afford permanent residences in the city. A bill was passed in the Age of Despair that prevented further building of houses and villas in the Thera area which caused the prices of existing houses to skyrocket. Many former residents made small (or large) fortunes from selling their houses and have retired in other areas. In the cooler months, Thera remains a quiet and relaxed city. However in the summertime, there is always an influx of visitors from all over the League, which often includes the Emperor of the League and his household. The city itself is set in a large valley and is nestled around a series of hot springs. A public bathhouse resides over the original hot springs and opens out into the main square (also known as the Forum) of the city. Directly across from the main square is the Basilica, which is the city government headquarters. On the eastern side of the Forum is the Arena, a modest arena compared to those of other cities of the League. Whilst on the western side of the Forum is the Palaestra, the public gymnasium and sporting area for the city. The main street of Thera leads from the Forum towards the Imperial Villas. These are the lavish residences of the wealthy, and there is also a barracks for the Legion Imperius here, to protect the citizens and ensure peace in the city. Of great concern to some within the city, are the frequent earth tremors that occur in the area, and have the portends of a great earthquake. By the time of the Second Destruction, geysers began to open in the hot springs, causing them to be far more active than usual. References
