The Sakalaminuik (or Saqualaminoi) are a peaceful sub-species of the giant family, that live in the cold reaches of the Ring Mountains of Northern Hosk, specially within the Hoarspines. Sakalaminuik stand between seven to nine feet tall and are intelligent, albeit a primitive form of intelligence. They are covered in white or gray hair, have gray skin, black eyes and long yellow tusks.

The Sakalaminuik live in small tribes or family units, which are headed up by the strongest male of each group, known as a bull. The Sakalaminuik reside in ice caves or glacial caverns, migrating between lairs with the passing of the seasons.
The giants occasionally raid the nearby Abaqua Ogre tribes, only when their need is great, and are the sworn enemies of the Ice People. The nearby ogres fear their giant-cousins, believing them to be snow demons.

With the coming of the dragon Ukamiak, the Sakalaminuik worshipped the Wyrm-Namer as their god. They became both his servants and his protectors, guarding the entrance to his lair from intruders. The giants mourned the great beast when he finally passed away in 424 AC.
