Saifhum

Saifhum is among the Blood Sea Isles, located east off of Kern, southwest of the Isle of Karthay, and west of the Minotaur Empire and is in the Northern Courrain Ocean. The mountainous island has small groups of stunted trees and few bodies of water on it. The many hills that are also located on it have stunted vegetation. The creatures that live on the island are not natives to it, but have been brought there by mariners that have settled there.

The people of Saifhum are called Saifumi and are led by the Grand Mariner, who gained this position by bribing the Saifumi. The people fish the waters located north and east of the island. The currency of the lands is the gold florin.

Age of Might

Before the Cataclysm struck Ansalon, the region where Saifhum sat was formerly the Istar province of Gather. It was a region of forest and plains land. Following the Cataclysm, it became an island of mountains.

Age of Despair

In the time after the Cataclysm, the freed slaves and criminals of the Empire of Istar founded small fishing villages, and then formed the nation of Saifhum. The pirate nation has remained isolated due to the Maelstrom to the south of it.

During the War of the Lance, Grand Mariner Pertinex kept the pirate nation out of the war. Instead, raiding upon ships more frequently in the Blood Sea belonging to the ever expanding minotaur nation. The pirates would plant artificial reefs and anchor traps to try to run the minotaur ships into them, making them easy prey. The Red Dragonarmy kept a watchful eye on them and would pay different pirate captains to carry troops for them.

Age of Mortals

Not much is known about the land during this time. The isolated nation is unknown to have been affected by the Chaos War as did the other nations of the Blood Sea Isles.

Cities

All of the cities of Saifhum are located along the coastline, and have ports where many ships are for the pirate nation.
