Zaradene was a small fishing port on the Straits of Schallsea in Abanasinia in the autumn of 346 AC. It was nothing more than a low, brown smudge on the gray-white coastline. It had about fifty homes, none over two stories tall, with a hedgehog of sharpened stakes around it. The wharf in the port was decrepit, being only one dock with all its boards warped. The people living there are a superstitious lot.

As of 414 AC (31 SC), this port is now a town of large size with deep-water docks. The waterfront businesses are one- and two-level stone buildings gaily painted. The newer buildings of the town are made of wood. Zaradene relies heavily on sea trade.
