Ghanima is the stereotypical beautiful Khurish lady. With light brown skin, deep brown eyes, and long dark black hair many clients come to eat at her inn just to see her and have her brighten their day. She tends to dress in light, though not too revealing clothing. The suggestion of what is beneath being far more important than what actually is!
Ghanima's mother, Alina, was from the desert tribes of Khur, but she ran away at an early age to marry an 'exotic' city dweller. Sadly he wanted nothing more then a lover he could pick up and put down at any time and he certainly wouldn't marry her, especially when she inconveniently became pregnant! Unwanted and unable to face the shame of returning to the tribe she scratched a living in the scrubby hills around Ak-Khurman as she waited for her baby to arrive, foraging what she could, and selling her 'services' when times were hard.
When her beautiful baby was born Alina's luck improved. She tagged along with a travelling trade caravan passing through Ak-Khurman and married one of the guards. Ghanima was brought up in the ever-changing world of a small desert caravan circling Khur year after year.
Perhaps her mother should have warned her daughter of the city, but Ghanima, like her mother at her age, longed for the glamour of the big city, and as soon as she reached her majority she left the caravan when it passed through Ak-Khurman to seek her fortune.
At first it seemed her dreams would go the way of her mother's; a beautiful young girl with no skills to sell looking to make her way in the big city. Luck stepped in once again and a matron of a high-class establishment, Rhenna, spotted Ghanima in the crowd. She saw at once the potential of the young girl and also her plight and took her in under wing to join her small, but select circle of courtesans.
Ghanima was a rapid learner and soon learnt the tricks of her trade. She also picked up a smattering of less legal skills, but her inherently good nature meant that whereas some of her sisters might look to gain a little on the side by theft or skullduggery Ghanima was happy to earn her money by being the best at what she was.
She soon gained renown as a dancer and courtesan and was courted by several gentlemen of distinction within the city. Ghanima now showed her intelligence. She was not the fool her mother was and spent time finding out about the men she might marry. She generally preferred the older men. They were more stable and dependable and if they were richer - well she wouldn't complain!
People wanting to speak cruelly of Ghanima called her a gold digger, but that was never true. She was lucky and had been married several times, for all the right reasons. It was her husbands who tended to be unlucky. They died of seasonal plagues, pirate raids at sea, slipping in the first snow in Ak-Khurman for fifty years and breaking their neck or in the last and final case of Helmut the sausage maker - choking to death on a piece of gristle.
Four husbands in sixteen years was enough for Ghanima and at the tender age of 34 she stopped where she was in Helmut's Sausage and Schnitzel Shop. She soon rebranded the premises as Ghanima's Inn and Smokehouse, keeping on Helmut's chief sausage maker who knew all the recipes that had made Helmut rich.
Now she is four years into her new career and at the age of thirty-eight is a successful businesswoman. She plays up the courtesan side of her skills to help in any negotiations, in the day-to-day work at the inn, winning over many a customer and closing numerous deals on successful terms. However she is now a businesswoman who knows what is happening in Ak-Khurman, and can sell you that information with your sausages, should you require.
