Bristlehex dresses in red and black spiked leather armor, has coal black eyes and hair, small horns, and smells faintly of sulphur. He skin also has a red tinge to it. She is still young for a kender; only 17 years old. She stands 3'5" tall and weighs 85 lbs. Bristlehex dresses the way she does because she thinks that by projecting an aura of intimidation people will leave her alone. Unfortunately this tactic doesn't work as often as she'd like, especially around other kender. Despite hailing from Kendermore she finds other kender to be draining and irritating to be around, and often attempts to divest herself of the pests at the first opportunity.
Despite her freakish appearance, Bristlehex desires nothing more than to be left alone. Her entire life she was either an item of ridicule or curosity. She left home as soon as she was able to escape the stigma of her appearance, but found it followed her everywhere she went. Her defenses, as well as her temper have been up ever since she made the pact with Jiathuli. Now she has to fight against the urge to make others pay for treating her like a freak.
Bristlehex is allegedly the product of a union between a kender female and a demon – at least that is the story that is told about her around Kendermore. There is some truth to the story; however, at the time Bristlehex's mother did not know the human she spent the night with was really a demon. It was a one night stand that resulted in her daughter being born with odd features. From the moment she was born, Bristlehex was an object of curiosity among the kender. To other races, she was an abomination.
As child things just naturally went wrong whenever Bristlehex was around. In fact, it was this effect which earned her the name Bristlehex. Animals bristled at her presence and when she was angry things went wrong even more often than when she was calm. Her fellow kender could not understand or relate to this odd kender, so as she got older she changed from being an object of curiosity to an object of ridicule. She was often the butt of many taunts hurled her way.
At the age of 16 she decided she'd had enough and left home to begin her wanderlust. No matter where she went people reacted the same to her. The treated her like a freak. Bristlehex just wanted to be left alone, but people we not willing to let her be.
She stowed away on a ship and traveled to Southern Ergoth hoping to get away from the small minded people she'd been forced around her entire life. However, even the wild elves of Southern Ergoth bristled at her presence. One night she was contemplating returning home to Kendermore and was visited by a small spider.
This spider settled down next to the kender and listened for the longest time to her talk aloud to herself. The spider eventually spoke. It offered her the means to force people to leave her alone; to strike back at those who treated her as a freak. It spoke of a wrongfully imprisoned deity named Jiathuli who could grant her this power. Bristlehex listened to the spider and when it finished agreed to a pact with Jiathuli.
The spider crawled around to her back and bit her between the shoulder blade. It injected venom into Bristlehex; however, it didn't poison her, the venom resolved itself into Abyssal script. Her pact with Jiathuli was literally written into her skin. The spider warned that should she ever betray Jiathuli the venom would turn lethal. Bristlehex agreed not to breach the terms of the pact. The next morning the spider was gone, but the script on her back remained, proof of the pact.
Though she now had power, it seemed to draw even more attention upon her. After narrowly escaping agents of the ruling wizards, Bristlehex left Southern Ergoth aboard a merchant caravel bound for Rigitt. From there she traveled north to Tarsis; supposedly a city free of wizardly influence.
Bristlehex is an afflicted kender; however she uses the Tiefling racial traits as she is a tiefling born to a kender mother and a demon father. Other than that she is a rules as written character.
