Standing 6 feet tall, Ulric Kes-Morn is a brute of a man. With skin as dark as his soul and dark brown eyes, the Dark Knight commander is an intimidating sight, even without his black armor. He is bald and his broad jaw sports a neatly trimmed goatee.

Ulric is never seen without the black armor that identifies him as a Dark Knight. An armor filled with images of the lily, the skull, and the thorn. Draped over his broad shoulders is a heavy, dark red cloak which was a gift from his mother, a Skull Knight named Sarafin Kes-Morn. When seen in public, Ulric always carries his black kite shield on his right hand, his wicked-looking battleaxe strapped to his back.

Ulric is a brute both mentally and physically. The Ergothian Dark Knight is a sadist who likes nothing more than inflicting pain and suffering upon his subjects. The fact that he hates his current assignment as commander of the Dark Knight forces in Port Balifor has only enhanced his sadistic nature. He hate the kender who live in Port Balifor with a passion.

Despite his sadistic tendencies and rough behavior Ulric believes in the teachings of Lord Ariakan and if presented with a worthy opponent, Ulric will treat that opponent fairly. This sense of honor does not extend to kender and most non-knights, however, since he feels that most people are worthless and as such do not deserve honorable treatment. Especially Ergothians receive harsh treatment by Ulric. It is unclear why he holds so much hatred toward Ergothians when he has never been to Ergoth.

Ergothian blood runs through Ulric Kes-Morn but he was actually born in Neraka. His mother, a powerful Skull Knight named Sarafin Kes-Morn, gave birth to Ulric on the Night of Black Skulls and this was seen as a blessing by Sarafin and her fellow dark mystics. It is not know who Ulric's father is and it is very doubtful that he is still alive. Sarafin had many lovers, few of whom survived their relationship with the Skull Knight.

Ulric was born into the Knighthood of Neraka and as such it was expected that he join the Order of the Skull. However, it quickly became apparent that the young Squire of the Lily had no talent for the mystical. His mother, disappointed by his lack of mystical talent, disowned her son.

Humiliated by his mother, Ulric spent the next couple of years training to become a Knight of the Lily. He was determined to prove to his mother that he would be a success as a Dark Knight. However, no knight would be his patron and so he could not become a true knight.

Then the War of Souls came. As a Squire of the Lily, Ulric was sent to Sanction to join the siege of the city. During the battle that ended the siege, Ulric fought with bravery and cleverness and during the Dark Knights' journey south toward Silvanesti, Ulric was rewarded for his effort and he was knighted.

The months following the War of Souls were chaotic for the Dark Knights. The Dark Knights were driven from Silvanesti by the minotaur invaders. Ulric traveled to Darkhaven to join up with the Dark Knights stationed there. He quickly rose through the ranks and soon commanded his own wing.

In the aftermath of their greatest ally in the region, Malystryx, the Dark Knights realized that they needed to consolidate their power in the peninsula and the commander of Darkhaven sent Ulric's wing to Port Balifor. Ulric has been stationed in Port Balifor ever since and he hates it. The many kender living in Port Balifor and the bleak town itself brings Ulric no end of grief and he longs for the day when he is ordered to lead his troops away from the city. For now, he endures the pain.

Ulric Kes-Morn is a competent fighter, wielding his battleaxe with great skill. His disciplined training has helped him to not swing mindlessly at his opponents and even if he is presented with an opening, he will still fight with some amount of caution and with defense in mind. This comes as a surprise to many who have witnessed the Dark Knight's fits of rage.
