Isarn Hammerfell was the master dwarf who forged the Kingsword, Stormblade. Isarn knew, even before he forged the sword, that it would be the finest work that he had ever created. He personally mined the ore to forge the sword, sought out the finest gems to adorn it and with only the aid of his apprentice, Stanach Hammerfell, he forged the Kingsword in the heart of Thorbardin for his thane, Hornfell.
To Isarn, the act of forging even the simplest of blades was an act of worship, and this worship Isarn had spent a lifetime perfecting. One of the first lessons he taught his apprentices is that they should trust the gods, trust the elements and trust their skill. This act of worship drew the attention of Reorx, who divinely inspired Isarn and touched the newly forged sword, which created a crimson light within it, a heart of fire that no shadow could quench.
Realgar, thane of the Theiwar, learned of the Kingsword through his informants and dispatched Skarn, an assassin, to steal the sword and bring it to him. Skarn betrayed his dark thane and took the sword out of Thorbardin and into the Outlands. After the theft of Stormblade from his forge, Isarn's grief made him begin the slow and painful decent into madness.
