Background:Saraele Mellivaene grew up in Silvanesti, an outcast in elven society due to her half-breed parentage. Saraele's parents were supporters of Alhana Starbreeze when she was declared a dark elf. Her parents were arrested for treason, betrayed by one of Alhana's closest supporters. During the altercation, her parents bought time for her to escape, but at the cost of their own lives. A few years later, Saraele had completed her indoctrination training, becoming squire to Mirielle Abrena herself. Abrena recognized that Saraele was a firebrand and a formidable fighting spirit. Abrena taught her the arts of war and personally began her spiritual training. During the Test of Takhisis, she was given a choice of siding with her homeland or the Dark Knights. She set all pangs of guilt of joining the enemies of the elves aside, fully embracing the Knighthood. Where the Silvanesti had brought her only betrayal, the Knighthood had given her a home. Early in her career, it became evident that Saraele was a very capably military leader, as skilled with a word as she was with a sword. Those under her command followed her as much out of respect for her daring as for her personal leadership qualities. Her deftness and perception garnered her the assignment of ambassador to the Khur and Mayakhur tribes. She earned the respect of the Khur people while helping them divert the attentions of Malystryx, even as she fended off the amorous advances of the former khan, Hali-no. The assassination of Mirielle Abrena came as a blow to Saraele. Though she had lost her former mentor, she continued in her role as ambassador to Khur until Baltasar Rennold became Lord of the Night. Saraele had monitored the elven diaspora and the foundation of Khurinost. She had taken great joy in their fall from their lofty heights and in their suffering. Lord Rennold thought that her talents could be put to better use focusing on the elves, so he promoted her to Champion of the Skull and gave her the additional title of Minister of Elven Affairs. She was replaced as ambassador by Lord Hengriff. Today, Saraele works with the Khurish people, trying to encourage dissidence against the elves. She tracks their movements, taking every opportunity possible to destroy them. Recently, her intelligence has reported that the elves are looking for the ancient Valley of Blue Sands. What she intends on doing with this information remains to be seen. Fan RatingsThis item has been published here with permission from the author(s) and may not be reproduced without permission.
