Since his adventures three years earlier with Bayard Brightblade against the villainous Scorpion, young Galen has matured into a loyal and honorable Knight of Solamnia. As the adopted son of Bayard, Galen is now accepted as a member of the Brightblade family, and lives within Castle di Caela. However the roll of the Calantina is not always in Galen's favor, and he soon finds himself embroiled in another dark adventure.
The young Knight of the Crown foresees the kidnapping of his brother Brithelm, and in an odd turn of fate, accepts his oldest brother Alfric as his squire on the adventure. The group learn from Que-Nara plainsman of the Crown of the Namer, and also that the Namer has claimed Brithelm. A brief skirmish ends in the death of Alfric, and an encounter with the enigmatic blind juggler called Shardos. Galen and his knightly comrades then plunge into the underground depths of the Que-Tana tribe, overcoming ghosts and the defenses of Firebrand. Eventually Galen faces and defeats Firebrand, and frees his muddled brother Brithelm. Recovering the Crown of the Namer, Galen and his companions return the revered item to the plainsmen, and witness Shardos become accepted as the new Namer. The young Solamnic knight returns home with the fair Dannelle di Caela on his arm. With a little more luck in the next roll of the Calantina, the Weasel hopes to live out the rest of his years in relative peace with his love Dannelle.
