Vallo is a tall kender, standing 4'3". His dark brown hair is tied in a topknot, which adds another 4" to his stature. He prefers soft woven clothing in woodland colors that help him to avoid detection when scouting (as well as complementing his hazel eyes and tanned skin).

Vallo is fascinated with goblins. He finds their ugliness beautiful, and has developed a habit of singing goblin war songs accompanied by the thumping rhythm of his wooden drum (much to the distress of any companions in his presence). Vallo has a deep hatred of chromatic dragons, which derived from the horror he felt when he saw the ruins of Kendermore. Vallo likes to wander, but is devoted to the Legion of Steel. He enjoys working as a Legion Scout, as he's able to serve the common good, yet see new places and meet new people.

After two days in a military stockade, Vallo Downyheels was ready to die of boredom. The charge was 312 counts of theft, but honestly, Vallo had just been poking around through all the interesting tents and provision stores. There was nothing to do in jail, so he sang the songs he loved: rousing goblin war songs, in several dialects no less.

After listening to Vallo's "concert" for three straight hours, the jailer marched into the kender's cell, grabbed him by one pointy ear, and marched him out the door and into the custody of a group of adventurers bound for the Desolation. "Here's your scout," the jailer said as he hustled back into the stockade and slammed and barred the gate behind him.

Those "adventurers" turned out to be members of the Legion of Steel. Vallo had inadvertantly stumbled upon a secret camp belonging to the Legion. Vallo's journey brought him to the ruins of Kendermore, which made him feel especially teary-eyed. He vowed that he would fight alongside the Legion against the Dragon Overlords and any other chromatic dragon he would come across. He promised upon his Uncle Lockspringer that he would be a good scout for the Legion, and not get too terribly distracted.

The Legion of Steel have finally officially inducted Vallo into their ranks, despite their initial misgivings. They still hold their purse strings tight, but they know Vallo to be a loyal companion. Vallo's superiors say that many Legionnaires could learn from his simple, childlike view of justice.
