Flint Fireforge is both friend and mentor to the Companions. Originally from Hillhome, Flint met Tanis while working as a metalsmith for the Qualinesti royal court, and gradually came to know the others while living in Solace. He is something of a father figure to many of them, a role he enjoys in his usual dour manner. He holds a special fondness in his heart for Tas, though he'd never be so brazen as to admit such a thing about a kender.
