Tanthalas "Tanis" Half-Elven
by Tobin Melroy
Even though Tanis is over 100 years old, he looks more like a 30 year old human. He has about shoulder length rust red hair and hazel eyes. Tanis has also grown a beard, something elves cannot do, unless there is human blood in their veins as well. Tanis stands 5'10" tall and weighs about 165 pounds. Rarely does Tanis not have a troubled look on his face.
Tanis is full of inner turmoil, although he tries hard to keep this hidden. His true friends, however, know of his inner struggles. Being half human, half elf has caused this turmoil, as if the bloods themselves battle for dominancy in his veins. Tanis is a natural leader, however he is filled with doubt over his own worthiness and regrets the burden of leadership, but shoulders it none-the-less.

Tanis was born in 249 AC and has been told his whole life that he was the product of a brutal rape. His mother, Elansa, and her husband Kethrenan (brother of the Speaker of the Sun) were kidnapped by human brigands during the troubled times following the Cataclysm. Kethrenan was eventually killed, and Elansa was left for dead. She gave birth to Tanthalas, but when she discovered the babe was not Kethrenan's, she lost the will to live, and died shortly after.
Tanis grew up in Qualinost with his adopted father, the Speaker, and his children, Porthios, Gilthanas, and Lauralanthalasa. Tanis eventually developed a childhood love for Lauralanthalasa, and she for him. This angered her brothers, who promptly made this known to Tanis. Around this time, Flint Fireforge was frequently visiting Qualinost, as an honored guest of the Speaker. Feeling somewhat like an outcast himself, Flint and Tanis became fast friends. So when the opportunity presented itself, Tanis left Qualinost with Flint, never to return.
Tanis moved to Solace, and due to his natural diplomatic skills became partners with Flint in his Smithing business. Gradually, a group of adventures grew around them, including a human love interest, Kitiara Uth Matar.
