Chainbreaker

D&D 3e (3.0/3.5) Rules

by Kendermage

Also known as Gilean's Key, Lockstriker, Deliverance, and Freedom's Hand

Lore:
Characters with either Knowledge (history) or Knowledge (religion) can gain the following information:

DC 20: Chainbreaker was created by Gilean himself to be a tool of freedom. The staff is said to be able to break any bonds, including those over the will of another creature and protect the bearer from mind control.
DC 30: The last reported owner of Chainbreaker is said to have been the human Ikaros, during the Age of Dreams. His followers took the staff with them when the fled back to the plains.

Description:
Chainbreaker is a staff of stout ironwood. To anyone who sees it, it is just a plain staff, but to the bearer, the staff displays phrases of freedom and liberation written in dark gray runes.

Effect:
Chainbreaker may open any lock to which it is touched, as if a knock spell had been cast on the lock. If touched to a magical lock, Chainbreaker does not remove the magical lock, but does suspend its functioning for 10 minutes.

As long as Chainbreaker is held, the bearer is immune to all mind affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects). Once per day, Chainbreaker can free those compelled to act against their will. If touched to a subject suffering from a mind affecting effect, the effect is dispelled as if break enchantment had been cast by a 25th level caster.

Aura: Overwhelming Abjuration and Transmutation
Weight: 4 lbs.
